So it is only Saturday and it has already been a busy weekend! I am spending tomorrow relaxing and sleeping haha. Here is the low down on what we did this weekend!
We (Michelle and I) left our apartment at 6:30am to catch the 7:25 bus. We made is just in time....its hard to function on time that early can ya blame us?? It was about a 2 hour bus ride to Limerick. We got out and walked around town and such because it was only 9:30 and nothing was open till 10. We stoped into the tourism building to warm up because it was beyond cold. Then we went around the corner to the Hunt museum. Basically the Hunt family loved antiques and collected them..so much so that they were able to create a museum from mostly their private collection. Then we went to see the treaty stone (literally a stone that people put the treaty on to sign, people here are funny about little details like that). We walked all the way there just to find out it was in the middle of construction so we couldn't see it. haha thats so our luck. But we decided to sit by it in front of the water and eat the lunch we packed. We sat across from king Johns castle (which we didn't go see because we have plans to see it when we see the cliffs of Moher in March when Brad comes to see me :). Then we went and saw the Limerick museum and the art museum. By this point it was time to go (3:30) and we got on our bus to Galway.
That was also about a 2 hour ride or a little bit more. We got there around 530-6 and decided to check into our Hostel. We stayed at the Sleep Zone. We had looked it up on hostel world online to check it and it sounded good. We went to our room and we paid for a 10 girl room and actually got a 6 girl yay! It was great! It looked just like the sleeping dorms at the sorority which was amusing to me. We had our own bathroom and the most amazing shower ever. Ok really it was terrible but it was bigger than my one here(i could stick my elbows out in it and not hit the walls!) And it was super hot which was incredible. Even though it turned off every 15 seconds(we timed it) and you had to push the button again. Think of it like those sinks where u push down on the knob and get water for a few seconds and have to do it again. But it was hot and spacious and wonderful!
As for things we did in Galway... after we checked in we walked to get dinner. We ate at a place that was trying to be American lol it was called Rodeo and was very Texas looking. We ate there because we only packed lunch foods and not enough for dinner. They were also having a special for cheeseburgers, salad, and fries for 7.50 which was the cheapest we could find . It was interesting i think it was a steak burger not a normal one because it had a very odd taste. But it was hot and food so all was well. Then we went to a pub and listened to some local people play irish music while sitting by a fire trying to defrost. Then we went and hung out in the tv lounge of our hostel. It was nice huge leather couches big tv and attached was a huge room with 2 full size kitchens and multiple tables so you could cook if you wanted....we learned this after buying dinner. Then after going to bed we got up this morning at 8 and were out the door by 8:45. We went to see the bridge where salmon were supposed to be swimming up stream in hopes of seeing them but no such luck. But we kept walking and went onto the university's campus there which was very pretty but not as pretty as ours here :). Then we went to the national aquarium and also some shops around town. We ate our second packed lunch(not as good the next day) on a stone chess table on edge of the ocean which was awesome. then we saw the museum for Galway(they had a whole section on JFK and when he visited for three or four days...I'm telling you its the little things that matter here lol) and had to run to our bus when we realized it left in 20 minutes. Then 5 hours later we were home!
Overall it was a great experience. Lots of museums and walking(not 14 miles again lol just a measly 8-10) and very very cold. But well worth it! Plus we got deals on almost everything by booking things online. We added it up and we saved something like 40 euro each, plus packing lunches and breakfast helped! ....Paris in T minus 13 days!!! oh boy!
ps pictures will be up sunday for this visit...there are tons and I have invested in a second set of rechargeable batteries to not miss a thing!
pps! I found Dr. Pepper again! I don't know whats wrong with cork but apparently its the only city in Ireland that doesn't sell it. lol So I stocked up with two again :)
