Gougane Barra, Clonakilty, Béal Na mBláth Trip

So we had a busy weekend. On Sunday we spent most the day on an API trip(the program I came with). We went to Gougane Barra, Clonakilty, and Béal Na mBláth. We went around to every where the Michael Collins had a historical thing. We went to where he grew up and where he was killed among other places. We saw the monument dedicated to him. In case you don't know who he is: He helped Ireland achieve their independence from Britain. He was killed by the anti treaty groups in Ireland who were unhappy with the terms of the treaty he got signed with Britain. There were many conspiracy theories about who killed him etc similar to the JFK assassination back home.

We only stoped in Clonakilty for about an hour. We were just walking around because everything was closed and we picked up lunch to eat at Gougane Barra. While we were in the store getting sandwiches we found Dr. Pepper!!! I was so excited that I bought myself two. I wish I had gotten more but I will just have to savor the one I have left.

Gougane Barra was probably the best place I have seen so far here. It is not all that exciting because its just a protected forest. But it was so pretty I would go back every weekend if I could and go hiking. You will see in the pictures all the waterfalls and beautiful trees. We hiked up one of the mountains for a while and then since it was very very cold we decided to turn back and head home.

On the way home we stopped in a town called Bantry. It is a small coastal town. It was fairly boring because since it was Sunday everything was closed so we got out walked around a bit and then headed home.

It was a pretty exciting day because even though it was cold and cloudy it didn't rain on us which was great! And an update from today(Monday), when I got up this morning there was sunshine yay! and then later in the day we got snow oh boy! Only it looked more like tiny hail than snow. But there were people out in the streets yelling its snowing its snowing!!! I was highly amused by this because they have not seen snow in 7 years apparently.

And last I found out some historical info that I found interesting so I thought I would pass it along. The reason all the houses and doors and such are so colorful is actually a result of the people rebelling against Britain. When the Queen died they told all people to paint their doors black in memorial to her but everyone in Ireland instead painted their doors bright colors. I thought that was really cool and since then it changed from just doors to houses and it is continued to this day. Post again soon! I'm sure we will have more fun adventures this weekend!
